The Red Sox drafted Jacobs in the tenth round of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft. Kevin Goldstein of Baseball Prospectus ranked Jacobs as the 46th best prospect in baseball prior to the 2012 season. Entering 2013, he was ranked as the 19th ranked prospect in the Red Sox organization. According to MLB.com, Jacobs was the Red Sox 11th ranked prospect.
